Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964, is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice president and is the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017, and as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
